Kellen Furness
Managing Director

Prior to 9Ware, Inc.'s founding, Kellen served myriad roles during her more than 20 years in business.

After receiving a B.S. in Commerce from the McIntire School at the University of Virginia in 1986, Kellen spent 3 years on the account management team of Goldberg Marchesano, a leading advertising and marketing firm in Washington D.C. Primarily supporting regional and national marketing for IKEA and COMSAT Consumer Satellites, Kellen gained a strong foundation in client strategy and customer support. Deliverables included marketing plans, site surveys, TV and radio production, newspaper and magazine print ads.

In 1989 Kellen joined the corporate office of Parcel Plus, a national Pack & Ship franchise, as Director of Operations. In this role, Kellen led the creation of the firm's Operations, Marketing, and Pricing manuals, designed and conducted training programs, scouted and negotiated leases for franchisee sites, and supervised store designs, permitting, and construction.

Several years later, after promotion to V.P. of Information Technologies, Kellen spearheaded Parcel Plus's electronic commerce initiatives, including managing the design, production, training, technical writing, sales, and marketing for auctionship.com, eBay's first Internet-based pack & ship partner.

Kellen left Parcel Plus in 1997 after helping build the company from 16 stores in 1989 to 125 industry-leading stores in 1997, based on average annual retail sales per store.

Having managed software projects for years, Kellen decided to learn to do the programming herself, and completed a full-time certificate program in 1998 that included software design, C++, java, Visual Basic, and more.

Kellen gained hands-on experience with these new skills as Software Developer for AT&T and IBM (1998-2000). Her team, Customer Account Data Management, was responsible for the collection, integrity, and manipulation of customer billing data migrated from the mainframe to the Unix side of the system. It was at AT&T that Kellen met Barry Kamrad and the other founding partners of 9Ware, which they incorporated in 2000.
